Referred to as “one of the greats” by his peers, Dr. Herbert DuPont has devoted his long career to the study of infectious diseases. A teacher of medical, M.P.H. and Ph.D. students, he has served as a primary mentor for 24 physicians during their infectious diseases fellowships and taken more than 200 students to Mexico to perform international research, and. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. DuPont was the first director infectious diseases and clinical microbiology at The University of Texas at Houston, helped found the International Society of Travel Medicine, has authored or co-authored more than 600 scientific publications and written or edited 19 books.
